Downer GRAIL

Case study

Design and delivery

Downer began discussions with Eagle Technology in 2011 about introducing GIS into its telecommunications design and delivery work. Eagle’s customer account names Graeme Henderson as the account manager who recommended an ArcGIS configuration and records Ryan MacVeigh on the Downer side. It describes GRAIL as Downer’s first GIS system. The implementation brought spatial tools into an existing contracting business with its own design records, delivery teams and operational responsibilities.

The system supported the move from paper and basic approaches towards shared geographic information for contract work. Downer’s in-house GIS and technical staff used the ArcGIS suite, and a later Enterprise Licence Agreement widened access to the platform. The recovered account establishes the project’s starting period and participants, while giving limited detail about individual datasets. Its statements about efficiencies remain the customer and vendor’s assessment of the work.
