An integrated biodiversity database with catchment, river-reach and map-polygon queries described in 2004.
NIWA's Freshwater Biodata Information System was documented in September 2004 by Don Robertson and Mary de Winton. It integrated freshwater fish, invertebrate, aquatic-plant, bryophyte, algae and diatom records assembled over many decades, with support from the Department of Conservation's TFBIS programme.
FBIS allowed users to search by organism and collection details, or spatially by catchment, river reach and map polygon. NIWA was also developing a wider Freshwater Information New Zealand service intended to combine those observations with the River Environment Classification. The two named systems had different scope and were at different stages in 2004.
