NZGD2000 became New Zealand’s official geodetic datum in 1998, replacing NZGD49. It provides geodetic coordinates at the reference epoch 1 January 2000 and uses a deformation model to account for plate motion and major earthquakes.

LINZ treats NZGD2000 as semi-dynamic. When transforming coordinates from an older grid or a time-dependent global datum, the source reference and, where relevant, coordinate epoch affect the result.
