The New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC), established in 1965, works to prevent harm and help people enjoy outdoor recreation safely. Its work includes safety education, behaviour-change campaigns, trip-planning resources and research. Maps and location information support this work: during LINZ and LEARNZ’s 2020 Get Outdoors field trip, an MSC expert discussed choosing trips, using maps and online track tools, and planning for conditions.
