Gary Hutchinson and Bill Risk, affiliated with the Topoclimate South Project, and Katrina Richards from University of Otago Geography co-authored a contemporary account of the work in 2000. Manaaki Whenua’s later history identifies Hutchinson as the project lead. Southland Regional Council worked with southern district and city councils, community partners and researchers to give landowners information for decisions about crops and land-use diversification. Soil and climate map series were distributed in 2002.
