Damià Vericat's research examines river morphology, sediment movement and the effects of floods, reservoirs and land-use change. His institutional biography places him at the University of Lleida and the Centre of Forest Science and Technology of Catalonia. His work combines fluvial geomorphology with geomatics, remote sensing and environmental GIS, providing the international research background to the Rees River collaboration.
Richard Williams, James Brasington, Damià Vericat and Murray Hicks combined mobile terrestrial laser scanning with aerial photography and optical bathymetric mapping over a Rees River braided reach in research published in 2014. Their work assembled more than five billion survey observations into detailed terrain information. Processing, storing and analysing billions of points required methods suited to the size and structure of the survey data.
