In 1994, Erzsebet Bekesi completed Master of Arts (Information Systems) research at Massey University titled “Conceptual data modelling for geographical information systems”. The thesis investigated conceptual GIS database design through a groundwater-information problem for Manawatū–Whanganui Regional Council. It considered spatially extended entity–relationship modelling as a way to address geographic data requirements.
