In 1995, John Stanley Bircham completed MSc research at University of Canterbury titled “Avalanche hazard forecasting at Mount Hutt”. The university thesis record documents early terrain-related avalanche forecasting at Mount Hutt. It does not establish that the method became an operational forecasting service.
