In 2021, Sumedha Kusum Amarasena Pathayala Ralalage completed Master of Social Sciences (MSocSc) research at University of Waikato titled “Remote sensing of wetlands in the Lake Whangape catchment, Waikato, New Zealand.”. The Waikato work used optical and radar satellite data, elevation information and geospatial classification to map wetlands near Lake Whangape.
