Xiao Mark Xu completed a University of Waikato Master of Social Sciences thesis in 2007 titled Developing a GIS-Based Decision Support Tool For Evaluating Potential Wind Farm Sites. It applied mapped geographic information to wind-farm siting questions. The university's repository confirms the research; later employment and any operational deployment of the tool have not been verified.
