S-map Online

ProjectS-Map Online Smap Online

Landcare Research launched S-map Online on 29 August 2011. Users could query mapped soil properties, download soil factsheets and create maps through a browser. It delivered information from the developing S-map soil database wherever survey coverage was available.

The Informatics team developed the application alongside Our Environment. David Medyckyj-Scott was its team manager at launch. The services used locally developed national basemaps derived from LINZ topographic data and open-source software. The online service widened access to soil information for land managers, advisers, researchers and the public.
