Rivers were a major element of survey and topographic compilation long before they became selectable and queryable GIS lines. LINZ publishes a 1:250,000 river-centreline feature layer for its Topo250 map series.
It provides a smaller-scale representation rather than a complete inventory of every watercourse. Earlier topographic mapping and later vector maintenance have different dates and positional qualities.
