HortResearch researcher who presented geographic fruit-quality analysis at SIRC 2000.
Alistair Mowat worked at HortResearch's Ruakura Research Centre and presented a paper at the 12th Spatial Information Research Centre colloquium in Dunedin, 10–13 December 2000. The study associated two seasons of fruit-quality and productivity information from 24 persimmon orchards with their location, regional identity and climate observations.
The analysis used self-organising maps to detect patterns among orchards and growing regions. These were statistical maps generated from geographic and production data, rather than topographic or cadastral sheets.
