An SIRC 2000 study associating persimmon fruit yield and quality with orchard locations and regional climate.
Alistair Mowat's SIRC 2000 paper linked two seasons of observations from 24 New Zealand persimmon orchards with geographic coordinates and regions. A self-organising-map analysis compared variations in fruit quality, productivity and climate.
The work illustrates agricultural research using explicit geographic information in statistical modelling. Its self-organising maps were analytical data projections, so the paper is evidence for spatial data analysis rather than evidence of a particular conventional desktop GIS product.
