In 2013, Melissa Jane Kelly completed Master of Science research at University of Otago titled “Decadal shoreline change on the New Zealand coast”. Kelly combined historical aerial photographs, GIS orthorectification and GPS observations to assess shoreline change at Mason Bay, Kaitorete Barrier, Big Bay and Tahakopa Bay.
