Place names that were lettered on printed maps can now be stored as attributed geographic features. LINZ's 1:250,000 topographic geographic-name layer covers named objects in the Topo250 database and is distinct from descriptive map text.
The layer records names used in topographic production. Historical spellings and the legal status of official geographic names need reference to their own sources and dates.
